I'm so excited that the Pittsburgh Steelers are in the playoffs! Those who know me, know that I've always been a Steelers fan (especially growing up in PA and going to college in Pittsburgh). Fingers crossed that we'll go to the Superbowl again this year!
I've been meaning to make something Steelers themed but didn't want to make a typical beanie. I adapted Whistle and Ivy's Puppy Love hat pattern to make a black and gold hat.
Basically I followed the pattern up till row 7. Instead of doing a third and fourth row of hearts, I did DC all around for 4 additional rows. Then I went back to the original pattern and did rows 14-16. Side note - I did add a few extra rows to my ribbed band as I crochet pretty tightly. I also got a chance to try out the pom pom maker I got for Christmas (I loved it of course... I plan to make fun, multi-colored pom poms with all my scrap yarn).
Hope you like the hat! Go Steelers! And a big thank you to Whistle and Ivy for the awesome pattern!

Kumicrochet is now on Instagram!
Some fun news: kumicrochet is now on Instagram! I finally created a dedicated account to share pictures of all my lastest creations, offerings, and a glimpse into some "behind the scenes" features.
Please follow me and check out the pictures: @kumicrochet

If you use any of the patterns from this blog, tag me and use the hashtag #kumicrochet so I can see everyone's cool creations (and maybe feature them on my page!)
The only downside is now I am have to stop myself from spending hours looking at everyone's amazing pictures. I love seeing how talented people are- I've been looking at so many handmade crafts, paintings, jewelry, and of course crochet. I've discovered so many new local businesses and Etsy stores. When I get some time, I will share some of my new favorites with you.

Crochet Cinnamon Roll - Free Pattern
I haven't eaten a cinnamon roll in forever, but I made a cute one to have with my cup of coffee and cup of tea. It's part of my coffee shop series that I have available on my Etsy shop. This was fairly a quick and easy pattern - hope you enjoy!
Level: Beginner
Materials:
- H/5.50 mm hook (use a bigger or smaller hook to change the size of the final product)
- Approx 50 yards of worsted weight yarn in tan
- Approx 50 yards of worsted weight yarn in dark brown
- Approx 1 yard of worsted weight yarn in white
- tapestry needle
- fabric glue
Final product is about 3 inches tall.
You may sell your finished projects but please link back to my blog to give design credit.
Abbreviations:
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
sl st - slip stitch
Use tan yarn
Row 1: Ch 51. Starting from the second chain from the hook, sc all the way across (50)
Row 2-10: sc all the way across (50)
Fasten off but leave a very long tail, at least a yard.
Use dark brown yarn
Row 1: Ch 51. Starting from the second chain from the hook, sc all the way across (50)
Row 2-4: sc all the way across (50)
Fasten off
Line up the dark brown band to the top of the tan band and sew together using the long tail (see picture)
Assembly:
- Roll it up the 2 bands with the center a little bit taller than the outer edge.
- Sew the roll a few times so that it won't unravel
- Optional: If the bottom is uneven and won't stand up, fold the outer layer and whip stitch it to the layer next to it. This will make the bottom flatter.
- To add frosting, use fabric glue to attach white yarn in a drizzle pattern across the top

Lattes of Love: Crochet Coffee Cup - Free Pattern
Happy New Year! To go along with my tea cup, I also made a fun little coffee cup.
This is a fairly easy pattern to follow although there is a little bit of assembly required. I probably should have used a different green color for the logo to make it look a bit more like Starbucks, but I didn't feel like running out to the store to get more yarn just for this and so I used the green that I already had on hand. I think it looks really cute!
Here is the pattern I used:
Note that you will work continuously in the round, I suggest using a stitch marker. Do not sl st and ch 1 between rounds, you will get a visible seam.

Assembly:
- Pull the tail of the tea bag through the 'tea' and knot it in place (see picture below).
- Attach the handle on to the tea cup by sewing it on the side opposite of the tea bag. I find it easier to sew this on before everything is stuffed.
- Line up the tea to the edge of the cup and sc all around. Before closing it up completely, add in the polyfiber fill stuffing. Don't overstuff so that it will stand flat.
- Fasten off and weave in any ends.
Welcome to KumiCrochet!
Hi all! Welcome to the KumiCrochet blog. A little introduction to myself, I live in San Jose, CA with my husband, daughter, son, and two pups. Between work and my two little ones, I don't have a lot of free time, but when I do get a chance to sit and relax, I love to crochet. I recently started an Etsy store where I sell some of my work.
I hope you enjoy my blog - I'll share pictures of my latest work and will provide patterns for anything I design on my own.
Thanks for stopping by!
